Stay safe first
Never climb up to inspect a roof during or straight after a storm. Wet, damaged roofs are extremely dangerous. Stay on the ground, and keep away from any loose or hanging materials. If tiles or debris have come down, keep children and pets clear of the area.
Limit the damage inside
- If water is coming in, move furniture and valuables out of the way.
- Place a bucket or basin under active drips and lift rugs off the floor.
- If a ceiling is bulging with trapped water, keep well back — it can give way suddenly.
- Take photos of any damage, inside and out, for your insurance.
